In the hit two-month-old ABS-CBN drama series May Bukas Pa, brainchild of the network’s lady boss Charo Santos-Concio, the boy Santino has a solution to everybody’s problem, thanks to his “hot line” to Jesus whom he calls Bro. The role, played by seven-year-old Zaijan Jaranilla (born on Aug. 23, 2001), is reminiscent of the ’60s’ movie Marcelino Pan y Vino in which child actor Danilo Jurado befriends Jesus Christ who comes down from the Cross everytime the child offers Him bread and wine.

Because May Bukas Pa hit bull’s-eye a soft spot in the hearts of televiewers, Santino has become the symbol of hope, the light in a grim landscape plagued by news of graft and corruption and incompetent government officials and crimes of all kinds, an accidental Pied Piper leading us not to damnation but to salvation, and the harbinger of the silver lining behind dark clouds.

Even the priests can’t seem to drive home their point during their sermon without invoking the name Santino, a name that roughly means “saintly” (given to the children of actors like Claudine Barretto and Raymart Santiago, Martin Nievera and his beloved Katrina Ojeda). Could you imagine what a blank wall everybody would be facing hadn’t Santino come around?

Inviting big stars as guests is part of the soap’s trajectory and it helps the show’s rating a lot. So far, among those who have guested were John Estrada (the prisoner), Gabby Concepcion (the magician), Claudine Barretto and Boots Anson-Roa (the girl and the Alzheimer-stricken mother), Susan Roces (the teacher), and Victor Basa and Dante Rivero (the would-be priest and the rich father).

In the meantime, sitting in his very first interview, Zaijan/Santino seems helpless in solving the monumental problem he’s facing — how to finish a tall glass of ice-cream served him after an unfinished meal. Help, Bro!

No, Conversations doesn’t burden Zaijan/Santino with such pressing problems as global warming, global recession and global conflict. I don’t even ask him to solve the never-ending network war. We’re just having a little fun as he warms up for his planned first big presscon scheduled for tomorrow.

Zaijan/Santino is accompanied to the interview by his father, Zenon Jaranilla (from Marinduque, separated from his wife, Glendel Amo, from Lucena City, Quezon). Before May Bukas Pa, Zaijan/Santino appeared in three commercials (one of them for McDonald’s) before he was discovered as John Prats’ co-star in the ABS-CBN fantaserye Tiny Tony where his acting ability was first noticed.

“Yes po. Kapag natatakot ako, hinahawakan ko ‘yung Rosary ko.”

“Tatlo po. I am the eldest. Sumunod sa akin si Ziljian (six-years old) at si Zynic (five).”

“At General Roxas Elementary School (Roxas District, Quezon City). Grade 1 po. No. 9 po ako sa class; 40 po kami lahat.”

“Minsan na lang po. Noon, I can play patintero outside our house. Now, I play with my PSP at home. Dati, pumapasyal kami sa mall. Ngayon, bihira na. Sometimes, pumupunta kami sa Time Zone (at Gateway, Cubao, Quezon City).”

“Tekken.”

While clearly all of the products in this video are very much concepts, they show a Microsoft that seems to have a vision for the next decade. Carrying out that vision will be a whole other matter, of course, and so Microsoft needs to focus.

And it needs to realize quickly that focus doesn’t include wasting huge amounts of time and money on fights it will never win. Fights like the ones it’s bogged down in with Google for Internet search and advertising, and with Apple in portable media players.

Products like its Surface computer show that Microsoft has the potential to fulfill the promises made by the video above. And if it does that, I’ll have no problem once again using Microsoft products in my life. Starting Monday, passenger jeepneys in Central Visayas will enjoy a 50-centavo fare rollback.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved the recommendation of its Central Visayas office to bring down the minimum fare from P7 to P6.50 in Cebu and the three provinces in region seven –Bohol, Siquijor and Negros Oriental.

Students, senior citizens and disabled persons in the region would pay only P5.20 because of the 20-percent discount, said Romulo Bernardes, LTFRB director for Central Visayas.

Bernardes said jeepney drivers and operators were no longer required to pay a fare matrix fee since the fare rollback was provisional. They are, however, required to post fare notices-which they could get from the LTFRB-7 office-inside their jeepneys.

“With our without notice, the passengers will start paying P6.50 (in minimum fare). The students, the senior citizens and the disabled will only pay P5.20,” Bernardes said

Last Monday, Bernardes recommended the 50-centavo rollback after getting the position papers of the different transport groups on the petition of former Land Transportation Office (LTO) Regional Director Manuel Iway for a P1 rollback.

This is one of my favorite teleserye show in abs-cbn. The miracle boy. I was amaze by a small boy who can talk to BRO(Jesus Christ). When he was just a baby, Santino was abandoned by his mother in a monastery. Santino was raised by the caring priests Father Anthony,  Father Jose , and Father Ringo.  As a young boy, Santino will find a friend in a mysterious person which he calls “Bro” (shortened for brother) who will help him change the lives of the people in their town. May Bukas Pa is a story that is set to open the eyes of viewers that there will always be hope amidst trials and difficulties. Miracles don’t just fall from heaven but comes to those who keep their faith.

Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Season 3 will soon open its doors to its exciting seasons to date! The judges will be impressed that you went through the rigors of a public audition. February 23, 2009 NO CLASS for private and publics schools.

President Gloria Arroyo announced yesterday, February 23, 2009 as Special Holiday for all public and private schools in observance of the 23rd anniversary of Edsa people power.

Edsa 1 celebrates the peaceful and bloodless ouster of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Former President Corazon Aquino was installed into office by the popular uprising that began on Feb. 22 and ended on Feb. 25.

In 2007, President Arroyo signed into law Republic Act 9242 or an “Act Rationalizing the Celebration of National Holidays.” For movable holidays, the President shall issue a proclamation at least six months prior to the holiday concerned stating the specific date that shall be declared as a non-working day.

The school holiday was seen as a compromise in the face of criticism that this would be the first time the country would not have a non-working holiday to commemorate Edsa 1 amid the clamor of the private sector for lesser holidays that reduce productivity and increase costs.
